with this ep best works records would like to pre-sent a new artist - luis junior. no stranger to the game! madrid-based luis junior has been a dj and music producer for more than 20 years. in 1993 he re-leased his first 12-inches starting to build a disco-graphy of genre-defying music that pushes forever forward, designing new stylistic frameworks and breaking new artistic ground with each successive production. luis has grown into one of the most cut-ting edge and inspiring artists in spanish electronic music. his versatile production skills are clearly displayed here from soulful and folkloristic influences to techno. the first track on the ep “don’t give up on me” fea-tures singer sobi thurairatnam with sultry vocals and a stong pop-appeal. d-nox and beckers tranform it into a club burner for the early hours. floidos on the back-side is more of techno-orientated banger and with pasion luis junior manages to integrate some spanish flamenco sounds without getting to obvious.

after three years and ten eps, amsterdam s will & ink label offers up its first full length from label favorite yaleesa hall and is called woodall. it explores texture, space and sound design in fascinating ways. since 2014 yaleesa hall has released four eps on the label and has become known for breakbeat laced stripped-down techno. this debut album finds the producer indulging a less dance floor focussed version of his sound, and one that is better suited to the full length format. explaining that his tracks most often start as -sound structures and experiments- that then get reworked for the club, here they stay closer to their original forms. woodall is sound sculpture that is electronic and synthetic but also made of real world sounds that are all truly absorbing. comes in gatefold sleeve.

legendary nyc dj / editor danny krivits story in contemporary dance music is a long and storied one. dannys got to be one of the hardest working men behind the decks right now with an international rep and dj schedule truly befitting of his time spent making us dance over the last 45 (!) years. it makes perfect sense then, that one of the most seminal disco labels of all time would call upon mr. ks sharp editing skills when reappraising some of the jams from their extensive catalogue. tk disco is the label in question here and they ve let danny loose on a pair of dance-floor burners that all disco heads will be familiar with.

even if russian producer gradient logic is found here turning out the business on serbian label disco fruit, the sound on the far away ep comes on like a snappy fusion of garage-ready new york proto house and laid back west coast boogie of the highest order. it s the third vinyl release for tonbe s label, and once more marks the serious clout behind the eastern european operation and its closest artists. just try grooving to the slick bass pops on feel me without being transported to an early 80s dancefloor. there s a more organic funk to lock into on i want you slide, but as ever it s hard to tell where the sampling ends and the musicianship begins on this utterly natural sounding ep.

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.

rothmans are back with their first release of 2016 and who better to bring in the new year than italian electropsycho s dj rocca & daniele baldelli. of course this record would have to pay homage to an italian great and who better than 1982 world cup hero marco tardelli. first up on the ep is a synth funk journey called kratos. rocca goes full on here and doesent hold back as he takes us on a journey of synth wizardry and classic italo beats. up next is an another original from rocca called fonk 400 another track that could have been plucked starigt out of the golden age of italo disco, again rocca is pulling no punches here. the ep is rounded off in spectacular fashion, just like marco tardellis famous world cup final celebration we have nothing short of genius with daniele badlellis electropsychomix of kratos. baldellie doing what he does best and taking us too another level yet again.

the fourth instalment of oscar mulero’s own pattern series is now here, introducing three tracks of futuristic techno on for the collectors out there. as usual, this comes in a wonderful package with special translucent plate.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.

massive mix alert! -it s party time tonight!- - nyc mix maestro mike maurro has turned in a storming, 14+ minute version of patrick adams classic -weekend- by phreek, a true blue club classic from 1978 (later covered by class action, sampled by todd terry etc) -weekend- was an absolutely huge paradise garage staple getting unlimited spins from larry levan during the club s lifespan, the definition of a -garage- record indeed. maurro s new mix rearranges and deconstructs the original version with so much style, respect and feeling, using unheard synth vamps, string sections, percussions and breakdowns pushing it into a whole new direction while retaining the feel of the original mix. the track is already electric in it s original form but here mike maurro pushes the energy levels right through the roof, birthing a fresh new mix of a stone cold classic! on the b-side we have the low slung funk of the new birth s killer -deeper-, released in 77 as a single on promo 12- this cut gets the mm mix treatment, with the intro extended and the drums brought fully upfront in the mix mike has teased out all the best parts of the original arrangement while managing to stamp his always unique style on this new version. this midtempo groover is pure soul all the way, one for the serious dancers that keeps rolling itself along into one of the most solid, funkiest grooves ever! simply put, another set of essential mixes from a modern day master! file under - *essential disco*

for those of you wondering what adesse versions was doing at our heist boiler room this summer in london, the answer is here. the “push it along” ep for heist is adesse versions first appearance on our label and features 4 stunningly raw and warm originals, and an amazing remix by new york’s ambassador of funk: ge-ology, together with multi-instrumentalist marc de clive-lowe on keys. after having released numerous records for jackmaster’s numbers, local talk and toy tonics, we’re happy to welcome adesse versions to the heist family. when he sent us his demo’s we had the tough job to choose the right tracks, cause there were just too many. the selection on the “push it along ep” features what we feel are his purest work up to date. with only a small amount of elements, he manages to create such a big and warm sound, finding a great balance between gritty percussion, rich analog synths and funky sampling work.

marcel vogel s lumberjacks in hell label shows no signs of slowing as it ramps up a killer new salvo from debutant artist c scott. -climb on- is an uptempo workout to capture the absolute peak of the party in the funkiest of ways, while -hands free- provides an apt alternative with its slow, organ-led whimsy. disco remains the backbone of the sound here, whatever tempo the track rolls at and wherever it may head. -stuttering- demonstrates this perfectly with its heavily treated, head-spinning fx still capturing that classic good-time mood, while -at ease- finishes on a life-affirming canter of rhodes led celebration.

celebrating his five years anniversary with a twelfth release, the french imprint clft decided to introduce a new artist on its roster. argentinian producer luis ruiz delivers here a 303% acid ep for his debut on the label. dah-dah-dah, gwon-gwon-gwon, ga-gyown-gyown… this sounds very caustic, don’t sleep on it!

crimes of the future is the kind of label you can trust, no matter who is at the controls. the same could be said for giallo disco, and certainly the two labels orbit a similar space for lurid soundtrack-inspired hardware jams from the italo age. vercetti technicolor is one half of the giallo team alongside antoni maiovvi, and here steps out with a perfectly bombastic range of compositions that revel in b-movie brilliance. -golden taurus- is the perfect slow-burner, those mono bass notes warming like no soft synth ever could, while -topaz fear- brings a more action-driven sequence into the mix. -death wish- too opts for a pumped up club scenario, while heinrich dressel smokes out -golden taurus- into a seedy slow-jam.

continuing their uncompromising fusions of artists new and old, contort yourself return with a punishing array of industrial thuggery from hardware manipulators you wouldn t take home to your mother. novacom were last seen on slumdiscs back in 2014 and here bring a fast and gnarly rhythmic tryst to bear before jk flesh do their own snagging dance with oppressive synths and drums twirling into a heavyweight whole. french brutalists le syndicat then dominate the b-side with their confrontational bastardisation of techno and industrial, making the perfect source material for ekman to get nasty with on his remix of -maximalist-.

the second chapter of the various artists serie -obscura europa s.a- is here. synth based -dark band sound- on its maximal exposure. from brazil to belgium, passing by switzerland, poland and australia, this serie presents some of best darkwave hymns uncomprehensively not pressed on vinyl to date. all tracks have been analogically remastered specially for this vinyl version by eric van wonterghem.

hudd traxx first release of 2016 comes from parsian house don chris carrier after the label had a big year in 2015 with their 10th anniversary. back to business then and no messing around on this one as carrier delivers 4 slices of gloriuosly crafted house music with something to please everyone. cycle psycho is a raw house groove that filters the main hook up and down throughout the track accompanied by heavy beats reminscent of early cross section releases. dimension 5 is a cheeky acid number that carrier has done so well in the past and he delivers here once again with this. flip for the b side and find more groovy head nodding material with smoke and flesh. tough beats and a trippy vocal with various hits make this one a sure fire future hit. chris rounds things up nicely on b2 with a sleezy deep one for the heads entitled flying sausage.2016 looks set to be another good one for hudd traxx hq.

san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

back in 2015 our bearded dirtybird player, will clarke, needed a secret weapon for some of his festival gigs for the summer. he sampled the ghetto house legend, dj funk, who made an appearance on dirtybird back in 2013 for the kill frenzy smash, “make that booty clap”. will passed it on to the rest of the dirtybird crew, and before we knew it the track took a life of it’s own and quickly became one of the most requested tracks, even to this day. will ended up linking with dj funk himself, and they turned what was a quick bootleg into a full blown collaboration. ladies & gentlemen, “booty percolatin’” is officially here. for the flip side, we added will’s solo effort “house girl”, a bumpin’ ride with a contagious bassline and chanting vocals for all the ‘house boys’ and ‘house girls”

hotflush are proud to introduce an exciting young artist, pyur, along with her singular debut lp epoch sinus. despite her relative newness, pyur meets the world with fully formed and unique signatures in both visual and sonic work, revealing a deep artistry that transcends medium. growing up in munich, in and amongst the same fecund scene that spawned artists like the zenker brothers and skee mask, pyur cut her teeth from a young age as a guitarist and singer before becoming spellbound by the electronic world’s endless scope for sound design. endowed with innately strong synaesthesia and reared in a shamanic household, she tells how music “played the biggest role in my growth. it alone had the purpose to help me dissolve boundaries, discover the beauty of life’s mechanisms, create freely. it talked. soon i felt like the music was making me, not the other way round.” epoch sinus is a seamless and heartfelt whole, a life-like being unto itself, describing the disintegration of barriers between the self and the all. here pyur offers an intimate and personal statement, combining knowledge of universal harmony with electronic music. she states: “i m mainly influenced by my inner visions and nature itself, yet also a lot from club culture, which is undoubtedly an important space of connection and freedom for so many people”. the record dances playfully between supposedly incompatible qualities: moments of brutality turn to softness, new life embraces decomposition, while explosive rhythmic and melodic structures are tempered with gentle and subtle percussion.

Æ is the third part of bjarki triptych of lps to be released this year. Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.
